St.
Paddy’s fun for the Wee Ones!
St. Patrick’s Day has become one
of the most beloved holidays amongst children and adults. In pop culture
the leprechaun and the shamrock have become synonymous with the holiday.
Another tradition associated with
St. Patrick ’s Day, especially in America
is wearing green to avoid being pinched. It is unclear as to the exact
origins of this tradition, but legend has it that in early America,
Irish Immigrants and those of Irish Decent wore green in honor of the Emerald
Isle. Rules have even developed for this game: You can only pinch those
not wearing green, IF you yourself are wearing green. If you pinch some
one who is wearing green then they can pinch you back ten times. School
children nation wide have embraced this game, much to their teachers dismay!
(Hey the kids cant help it if Teacher didn’t
wear green!)
Here are some other fun things you
can do on St. Patricks Day. Remember to
get Mom or Dads permission before you start, and ask them for help if there
is cutting involved.
Enjoy!
P.S Don’t forget to wear your green
or some one will pinch you!!!

Little Leprechaun
Hats
Materials Needed:
-
Small Paper Plate
-
Paper Cup
-
Paint
-
Glue
-
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Paint the paper plate and the outside of the cup green. Once
the paint is dry, glue the cup upside down in the center of the bottom
of the paper plate.
Cut a piece of black construction paper
to approximately 1 inch thick and long enough to wrap around the cup where
it is glued onto the paper plate. This will be the band on the hat. Glue
it into place. You can also cut out a small yellow buckle for the hat band
if you like.
Leprechaun Kisses
Materials Needed:
-
Hershey Kiss Candy
-
Green Ribbon
-
Plastic Baggie
-
Gold and/or Green Glitter or Sequins
Instructions:
Place 2 or 3 Hershey Kisses in a plastic baggie and then sprinkle in
a little glitter. Gather the top of the baggie just above the candy and
tie a piece of ribbon around it to keep it closed. Tie the ribbon into
a bow.
Print out the poem below and give it
along with your bag of treats. You can simply put it on a seperate
piece of paper. You can also make it into a gift tag by trimming around
the poem, punching a hole near the edge, and threading it onto the ribbon
before you tie it into a bow.
Here's a wee present for you
Full of luck and wishes
Celebrate this St. Patrick's Day
With these Leprechaun Kisses
Leprechaun Treats
It never hurts to have leprechaun treats
on hand. You never know when you might need them!
You need:
-
Mini Zip Lock Bag
-
Green Tic Tacs
-
Small Beads
-
Glitter
-
Star Paper Punch Outs
-
Safety Pin
Instructions:
Put a few green Tic Tacs
in a mini ziplock bag. Add glitter, beads,
confetti. Add a safety pin. Don't forget to put a label on it that says
"Leprechaun Treats". For an edible version, use colored sugars, available
in the baking section of most supermarkets.
Shamrock Pin
Materials Needed:
-
Construction Paper
-
Glue
-
Acrylic Sealer Spray
-
Pin Backing
Instructions:
For each pin cut out about 20 clover shapes (you can print out and
use the clover shape below if you like). You want them all as close to
the same size as you can get. It is a wonderful effect if you use different
shades of green, but you can use whatever color you choose. Glue all the
shamrock cut-outs on top of each other with the edges lining up as evenly
as possible. You will then have a stack of shamrocks. If you used different
colors, you will see the colors along the side of your stack. Let the glue
dry.
Once the glue is dry, spray your shamrock
stack with a few coats of the acrylic sealer (let it dry between coats).
This will make it shiny and more durable. Once the sealer is dry, use tacky
glue or a hot glue gun and glue the pin back in place.

For a little variation, you can decorate
your pin with glitter, tiny stickers, sequins, etc.
